I must say, we have had some fun this year, but this week might just top them all. The kids had such a great time at Camp Learned-A-Lot. I hope that they have come home with their camp backpacks and told you all about the fun things we did this week. From reading stories in the tent to pancake breakfast, care packages to class party, trail mix and nature walks it was just a week of laughter and smiles that I won't soon forget!
We have one more big day coming up on Monday. We cannot wait to see you all for our Poetry Coffee House. I'm asking the students to wear a black t-shirt, pants/jeans, and (if they have one at home) a fedora or beret a-la the beatnik style of the 1960s. We will have yummy treats and each child will be sharing their favorite poems they have written in class. It's going to be a great morning celebrating great young authors! See you at 10:30! We have sent most items home already, but your child will be bringing home some final graded papers on Monday. Please note that your child will not bring home a paper copy of their final report card. These will be available on Parent Vue like in the past. Tuesday will be the last day to bring book bags to school. No book bags needed on the last day. Yearbooks went home today to those that ordered them. We did some signing in class today, but I've asked the kids to bring them back on Monday for some additional sign time. If you did not order a yearbook, its not too late! Please see the email from PTA about how you can still order one, although they will not be available for pick-up until summer. We created a class memories book during camp this week and students are welcome to bring this back to serve as an autograph book if they'd like. Mrs. Pascual is also offering students the chance to come down to the Tech Lab on Monday morning to create their own autograph pages to stick in their yearbook when it arrives. I am still in disbelief that next week marks the last days of our school year. This class has been so wonderful. I'm not ready to say goodbye! They have (and you have) truly made my transition to Tritt this year such a smooth one. I am so thankful for the support you have given me and the confidence you have put in me to teach your children and help them grow. Thank you so much for making the such a great year! And finally, as I wipe a tear, please see the remaining upcoming dates below: 5/20 - Poetry Coffee House @ 10:30 - 11:15 5/21 - Early Release @12:30 5/22 - Last Day of School & Early Release @ 12:30... :(

What a week it has been! Monday feels like the only normal day that we've had this week (if there is such a thing!). We had a great time creating blurbs for the stories about Early Americans that the students wrote last week. You'll be able to read these stories next week outside of our classrooms. The blurbs for each story can be heard on your child's SeeSaw.
Our field trip to West Rock was very informative. We saw first-hand where our recycling goes when we put it in the bin. Ask your child about the mountain of white paper or how much a cube of plastic weighs. After the field trip, we were able to have some great conversations about what makes recycling so important. We learned while we were there that the amount of recycling in the facility (which was quite a lot) was only one day's worth. Imagine if it wasn't getting recycled at all! West Rock kindly gave us the hard-hats and glasses as a souvenir to keep. We are so lucky to have these awesome partners! Field Day was... We have Camp Learned-A-Lot coming up next week. I am so excited to experience camp! We will kick off with a camp sing-a-long on Monday followed by the big surprise reveal that you guys sent in... ;) We'll have arts and crafts, stories in the tent, outdoor games, and even our class party. Lookout for a schedule that I'll be sending you via email today. As we wind down the year, I have begun sending things home. You probably have already gotten 4 workbooks that your child took home yesterday. These will be great to use for some practice over the summer (especially the math book and the Coach book). We can't possibly get through it all during the school year, but I encourage you to use these to help prevent that summer slide. Speaking of summer, Mrs. Bates showed the kids how to access their Biblionasium account for logging their summer reading this summer. Students will even be able to start logging their minutes as early as next week to get familiar with the program. Please make reading a habit for your child over the summer. Use some of that middle-of-the-day downtime when the sun is blazing hot and let your child curl up indoors with a good book. I promise, you won't regret this! Take a look at Mrs. Bates' blog page via the Tritt website to access Biblionasium. Some information went home about it yesterday in purple folders as well. Finally, don't forget to mark your calendars for our Poetry Coffee House on Monday, May 20th from 10:30 - 11:30. The students have been working hard to publish their own poems and can't wait to share them with you. We hope to see you there! Upcoming Dates: 5/13 - 5/17 = Camp Learned-A-Lot 5/16 = Our Class Party 5/20 = Poetry Coffee House @ 10:30 5/21 = Early Release Day 5/22 = Last Day of School! (Early Release Day) Holy Moly! It is May! This month is full of so many exciting things, but the thing that I am feeling so excited about right now, is how much these kids are growing. We have been going back to concepts we taught earlier in the year, and it is so rewarding to see them put it all together in new ways.
We studied the early American colonists this week. The kids dove deep into non-fiction texts to learn about what life was like for the people living in Plymouth and Jamestown. We have had some great conversations about how different life was for the settlers. Our poetry skills were in full bloom this week as we wrote poems about the colors and signs of Spring. We are planning a special celebration to honor these 3rd grade poets on May 20th. Parents are invited to our 3rd grade Coffee House! This will take place on that Monday (the last Monday of the year) at 10:30. I will be sending out a Sign-Up Genius soon for everyone to sign up to bring in a treat. In Math, we are continuing to drill multiplication and division facts. Those 7s, 8s, and 9s can be the trickiest, so keep practicing these facts with your child. Our final Multiplication Drill of the year will be next Friday (5/10). The goal for a 3rd grader is to solve 100 multiplication problems in 7 minutes (1 - 10 Facts). When asking a wise 4th grader what the most important math skill would be to work on for rising 4th graders, the answer was an emphatic "Multiplication Facts!". So keep practicing them! We have big things coming up next week. On Wednesday, we will be going on our Field Trip to West Rock Recycling. We will be leaving the school right at 9:00 and returning around noon. Our lunch time is 12:38, so we will be back in plenty of time to eat lunch at school. No sack lunches needed. West Rock is a working recycling factory, so we have some very specific guidelines about our behavior and dress code for the safety of all of the students on the trip. They are as follows: 1. Students must wear tennis shoes. NO OPEN-TOED SHOES ALLOWED. Students who do not wear closed-toed shoes will not be able to go on the trip and will have to stay back at Tritt. 2. Students must wear their STEAM shirts or GRAY shirts. 3. Students must follow the Tiger PAWS Promise. Of course it goes without saying, but it's still a must. :) Field Day is also coming up on next Friday. Our Field Day will take place from 12:00 to 2:00. We are still in need of volunteers to help with our Field Day stations. Please consider volunteering for this super-fun day. I will share more details with you about Field Day next week. Finally, Camp Learned-A-Lot is coming up the week after next. Don't forget those special deliveries are due next Friday. ;) Here is a list of the many events coming up next week: 5/8 = Field Trip to West Rock 5/10 = Field Day 5/10 = Camp Learned-A-Lot items due 5/13 - 5/17 = Camp Learned-A-Lot 5/20 = Poetry Coffee House (10:30 - 11:30) 5/21 and 5/22 = Early Release Days 5/22 = Last Day of School |
