It has been an exceptional week! We celebrated Exceptional Children's Week and Valentine's Day. The students got to hear a great message from some Special Olympic Gymnasts in the LLC. We also celebrated Valentine's Day with some Unlock to Box fun and a special snack. Of course, the kiddos got to give each other Valentine's too!
We have been working with reading analog clocks and calculating elapsed time in math this week. This is a great skill to practice at home as well. Ask your child to figure out what time you'll arrive at your road trip destination or calculate the time it takes to travel from home to the park. Any opportunities you have to talk time with them will really reinforce what we are doing in class. Here is a look at what we will be learning when we come back: Reading: Figurative Language Writing: Opinion Writing Math: Elapsed Time Grammar: Comparative and Superlative Adverbs Vocabulary: None this week Social Studies: Explorers to the New World Finally, here are some upcoming dates: 2/17-2/21= February Break (No School) 2/24 = Hermenabelle and Shannon Bond (SAFE) Presentation 3/11 = Early Release Day 3/16 = WestRock Field Trip You just never know what kind of weather Georgia winters will bring. Monday started our week off with Spring temperatures, Thursday a monsoon, and today we saw snow flurries at recess! You just never know around here.
The classroom has been a little extra chatty this week. Blame it on all the yucky and unpredictable weather... or maybe the fact that a break is right around the corner, but these kiddos have needed some extra reminders about staying quiet in the hallways. Please remember to initial your child's behavior log if you see any notes. This helps me to know that they are sharing them with you. We have been working to solve equations with a missing variables this week. The students have really grasped this concept, but one thing that has slowed some down is their knowledge of multiplication facts. Starting next week, I will begin assigning nightly homework in Moby Max "Fact Fluency" to help the students strengthen their math fact knowledge. You can help by reminding your child to complete this practice nightly. Students will need to know all of their multiplication facts from 1 - 10 by the end of the school year. Please let me know if you have any concerns or reasons why your child wouldn't be able to access Moby Max nightly. Valentines' Day is coming up next Friday. Please check your email for information about sharing Valentines that was sent out on Thursday. Let me know if you need me to resend.
