As Thanksgiving approaches, I must take a moment to tell you how thankful I am to teach this group of students. They are such an amazing bunch of kids. I love their courage to take on new challenges in the classroom and their ability to work together and problem-solve. I feel so blessed to be their teacher!
This week we wrapped up our Native American rotations. The kids really enjoyed getting to visit other classrooms to learn all about the different tribes. We also finished reading Because of Winn Dixie. The kids were a little disappointed in the ending, so a few of them decided to write their own endings for homework on Wednesday night. I was so impressed with their ideas. Maybe they can advise Kate DiCamillo on ideas for a sequel... We watched the movie today to compare the two. Everyone knows the book is always better than the movie though! As we near the end of the semester, our stash of extra snacks is getting low. We are in need of Goldfish crackers, Cheez-Its, pretzels, or any other individually packaged healthy snack options. We would be appreciative of any donations for our back-up snacks. :) Our field trip to the Pope Theatre to see Alice in Wonderland is coming up on December 12th. Brrrr, it's chilly outside, but in the classroom we are ice cold! We have begun studying Native Americans and we kicked off this unit by learning about the Inuit tribes of the Arctic region. The students had a great time building inukshuks and learning how igloos keep Inuits warm. Ask your child what Inukshuks and the Big Chicken on Cobb Parkway have in common. We will continue our studies next week as well. The students will even rotate to other 3rd grade classrooms to learn from each third grade teacher. This will take place throughout next week. By Friday, they will be experts in American Indian regions.
You should have seen information come home today about a special book report students will be presenting during the last few days of December. This is such a special time for the kids to get to share a book that is special for their family and to have the spotlight while the class listens to them read a story. Please email me if you have any questions about this after reading the information in the packet. Tis the season for cold and flu. We have had quite a few kiddos out lately with fevers and more. We are doing what we can to keep the classroom environment germ free. Thank you for emailing me and letting me know when your child is out sick. Don't forget to send in a note to the front office when your child returns to school too.
