Well, as I suspected, September flew by! I can't believe that when we get back from Fall Break, it will be October! We have had a jam-packed week. From IOWA testing to Book Reports, with a STEAM challenge in the mix, it has been a week where these kiddos have gotten to show their smarts!
Coming up after the break, we will continue to with our unit on Multiplication and will wrap up our reading and writing standards for Quarter 1. We will be responding to a writing prompt about Fall Break on the day we come back. As we wrap up our unit on Narrative Writing, try and help your child think of one special moment from Fall Break whether it was a far away location or a special moment close to home. I know the kids will enjoy sharing their Fall Break adventures. I hope everyone had time to rest and recharge during Fall Break. I can' wait to see the kiddos on Monday!

I cannot believe the speed of this school year. Earlier this week, I looked at my calendar and I was shocked to realize that next week is our last week of school for this month! With Fall Break on the horizon, I just wanted to remind you of a few upcoming items:
#1 - Book Report Bags: Our first book reports will be due on Thursday (9/20). I am so proud of the students for being diligent and staying on top of this due date. If your child has not finished reading their book yet, please encourage them to do so this weekend. Thursday will be here before we know it! The kids are more than welcome to bring their bags in sooner if they finish before Thursday. We will present book reports throughout the week, if possible. Encourage your child to practice sharing their book report with you to prepare for their first oral presentation. # 2 - September S.T.E.A.M. Challenge - Ask your child to tell you about the S.T.E.A.M. Challenge for September. We will be working on this after testing on Monday and Tuesday. Your child may want to bring in an empty cereal or shoe box they can use in their build. I can't wait to see what they create. # 3 - IOWA testing continues: These kiddos have been working so hard on testing these last few weeks. We have two days left of IOWA (Monday and Tuesday). Let's finish strong! What a full short week this was! We successfully completed our first week of standardized testing, wrapping up CogAT today. Thank you all for getting your kiddos to school early so they could get settled and get their hearts pumping at morning run before testing began. We will have a short break before ITBS begins on Thursday.
Field trip forms for our trip to the Tellus Museum went home this week. Thank you to those of you who have already sent in your permission forms. Please be sure to return forms and payment before Fall Break. This trip is going to be so much fun. If you haven't noticed by now, this class is wild about rocks and minerals and we will be seeing so many cool ones at Tellus. I checked with every student today, and most everyone seems to be set with their book report book. Please encourage your child to read it and work on it little by little so there aren't any tears and there isn't lots of stress leading up to Book Report day (due 9/20). If the first week is any indication, September is going to fly by! We are wrapping up our Addition and Subtraction unit and moving into Multiplication next week. Although we are moving on, addition and subtraction with regrouping is still something we will be coming back to throughout the year. Please keep reinforcing that automaticity and fact fluency at home. :) |
