Time is really flying these days! It's hard to believe that today is the last day of Quarter 3. We will be pushing full steam ahead in Quarter 4 to learn everything we can before the year ends. With Milestones fast approaching, we will also be doing lots of review in preparation. My number one goal going into testing is that these kiddos feel confident in how much they have learned this year - and they have learned SO much! I believe in them and cannot wait for them to show what they know!
In Math this week, we revisited word problems with multiple steps. This standard can be tricky because it not only requires good computation skills, but also good comprehension skills. Encourage your child to talk it out and make a picture model in their mind (or on paper) when they are working through problems in homework. Next week, we will be moving into geometry as we connect quadrilaterals and polygons to what we have studied on area and perimeter. Don't forget to keep drilling those multiplication facts as well. We will have a weekly multiplication fact check each Friday until the end of the year. In Reading, we are continuing our novel study of Peter Pan. The kids have loved reading this book and are begging that we keep going with each completed chapter. From time to time, I will ask your child to read their favorite chapter that we've read so far for homework. This is a great way for you to see how they are comprehending this grade-level text. With the end of the quarter being today, you will be receiving report cards via Parent Vue soon. Remember that we will not be sending home a paper copy of the report card this semester. If you have not already, please be sure to set-up your Parent Vue account so that you can see how your child is doing in class. Let me know if you need some help setting yours up. We had lots of STEAM-y fun this week with our Recycling PSAs on Wednesday and our MaKey MaKey word problems project on Friday. This kids loved using coding to make word problems interactive.
