We have officially completed the first month of Third grade, and boy did it fly by! This week we spent a lot of time focusing on how to find books on our level this week. We talked today about setting a goal for reading and letting our book choices help us in inching closer to that goal. And speaking of books, the students were assigned their first book report on Wednesday. Please take some time over the long weekend to help your child select a book for their book report. You can even make this something special by taking a trip to the book store or library.
In Math, we have been working hard on addition strategies and began looking at subtraction today. Having that addition and subtraction fact fluency is so important and has such an impact on a child's confidence when tackling larger numbers and equations. I strongly encourage you to practice math facts with your child using flashcards, apps, or any games you come up with. I promise you, it's worth taking the time! We will begin testing next week with the COGAT. We will test Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. All students will participate in morning run on testing days, so be sure that your child wears tennis shoes on those days. We will also have no homework on testing day, aside from getting a good night's rest and eating a nutritious breakfast.
