We have had an awesome week of exploration as we have rotated through 7 different classrooms (including mine) to learn about explorers to the New World. The students had the opportunity to learn from all of the 3rd grade teachers about a different explorers and what obstacles they faced when travelling to the New World.
In math, we have spent a lot of Quarter 3 covering time, measurement, and fractions. Next week, we will dive back into multiplication and division as we study missing variables. Please continue practicing multiplication facts at home with your child. By the end of the year, your child should know all of their facts 1 - 10 by memory. I have started assessing them weekly on how many facts they can answer on a timed test. The goal for the end of the year is 100 mixed facts in 7 minutes. Your child may have told you about our new math game, Prodigy. This online game allows students to practice many different math skills in a fun gaming platform. I also have tons of links on my website to review and practice all of our math standards. We have lots of things happening next week. On Monday, we will visit the Computer Lab to practice using the online platform that our Georgia Milestones test will be on. That's right, it is time for us start preparing for the brave new world of Milestones testing on the computer (see what I did there?). You should have received a green testing schedule in purple folders today detailing the days in April when we will be testing. I know they kids are going to do great. We will also have our next STEAM Day on Wednesday. This STEAM Day is also open to visitors. If you decide to stop by for a visit, please be aware that 3rd grade will be at Specials until 9:00. We will be in the classroom at 9:00 if you're in the building and would like to pop in and see progress on our Recycling STEAM projects. The STEAM Showcase ends at 9:30. Don't forget that this will be an Early Release Day as well. We have a great opportunity for the 3rd grade students at Tritt to participate in several hands on science learning rotations right down the road from us at Pope High School. On Monday, March 25th we will take buses over to Pope around 9:00 am and spend the morning exploring our Science standards. Some of the rotations include: zoology, chemistry, astronomy, graphic arts, microscope lab, engineering, and virtual reality. We will return to Tritt around 12:30 and eat lunch. Please look for the green permission form (in your child's folder on Monday) and sign and return the form as soon as possible. There is no cost for this trip. Finally, we will have our Quarter 3 Class Auction this Friday. Remind your child to bring in an item they would like to contribute to the Auction. Time to spend those hard-earned Bonus Bucks!
