Happy New Year to everyone! It is so hard to believe that we are over halfway through the school year and already into Quarter 3. With all of these fractions to consider, it makes sense that we are jumping into fractions to start off math this quarter. The students have been learning how to represent fractions of a whole, of a set, and on a number line. We will begin comparing fractions next week and finding equivalent fractions as well.
In reading, we have been studying plot, setting, and theme. Themes can be hard to determine, but I am so proud of how well the students did with it this week. Ask your child to tell you the themes in our story of the week, Feathers in the Wind. The plot may remind you of a story you were told growing up. We have also begun reading Mr. Popper's Penguins as our class read aloud. Each student has their own copy and they are so excited get into a new class novel. Be on the lookout for our next reading project in purple folders. The students will be creating a penguin out of recycled materials to bring in and share with the class. Our projects will be on display in the ILC during the month of February too. Report cards went live on ParentVue today. If you forgot where to find this, visit the following link: https://parentvue.cobbk12.org/ and login using the information you registered with. We will not be sending home paper report cards this time around, so please take a look at your child's grades on ParentVue. We had an amazing presentation today from West Rock. They are one of the largest recycling companies in the nation and located right here in Marietta. We are going to be kicking off a year-long STEAM project in recycling this month and we'll even get to visit a recycling plant in May. More details to come. A few reminders about upcoming events: -Target classes resume on Tuesday - No School on Monday the 21st (MLK Jr Holiday) -Penguin projects due January 31st
