Well, at long last, winter has finally made an appearance. The temperatures got very cold to start off this week and that has made for some chilly recess times. Please know that we make every effort to go outside for recess each day (weather permitting). When the weather is below 40 degrees, we will stay out for no longer than 15 minutes, but we always try to go outside. I say all this to ask that you please encourage your child to wear a coat (more than just a jacket or a hoodie) to school each day. It is so good for them to get outside and run around, just not in shorts and a sweatshirt when its this this cold. :)
We have begun learning about measurement to the nearest quarter inch this week. This concept can be a little challenging for students, but we are working on connecting it to what we have already learned about fractions. We will continue practicing this next week as we plot measurement data on a line plot. I have added an assignment on Prodigy that students can do at home to practice this skill. Here is a look at what we will be learning next week: Reading: Citing Text Evidence Writing: Opinion Writing Math: Line Plots and Measurement to the Nearest 1/4 Inch Science: Animal Adaptations STEAM: Recycling Public Service Announcements Vocabulary: ripe, irate, legible, embrace, seek Finally, mark your calendar for next Thursday (1/30). The Tritt Talent Show is at 6:00 at Pope Auditorium. Doors open at 5:30. Come and cheer on your fellow classmates and Mrs. Cook! I hope to see you there.
