We are getting back into the routine this week. After having the first week of the semester to get back in school-mode, these kiddos have really come on strong!
With 4th grade in the horizon, one important task we have as third grade teachers is to help students make the shift from lower elementary to upper elementary school. With this in mind, we will begin adding a percentage to all graded papers going home. This will give you an idea of how your child will be graded in 4th grade when students move towards a traditional report card. A letter will be going home in your child's purple folder about this today. Be on the lookout! The kids have been doing a great job of bringing their chapter books to class and making time for independent reading. Thank you so much for supporting this at home. Tritt will be participating in Six Flags Read to Succeed again this year. Your child will have the chance to log some of their at-home reading hours and possibly earn a free ticket to Six Flags. This purple sheet will also be in your child's folder today. The students have been given their new behavior log for Quarter 3. This orange sheet is in the back sleeve of your child's folder. Please be sure to check these and initial when your child has to add something to their log. This really helps me to reinforce classroom expectations. Our penguin projects will be due in two short weeks. I hope your child has had the chance to get started on this. January 31st will be here before we know it! Here is a look at what we will be learning next week: Reading: Problems/Solution Writing: Opinion Writing Math: Comparing and Equivalent Fractions Science: Plant and Animal Adaptations Grammar: Comparative and Superlative Adjectives *No Vocabulary due to the short week Dates to Remember: 1/20 = Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday (No School) 1/30 = Tritt Talent Show @ Pope Auditorium 2/17 - 2/21 = Winter Break 4/17 = Deadline for Six Flags Read to Succeed
